Dear Sailors
Welcome back. Trust you have all had a good break over the winter and enjoyed playing rugby, netball and other winter sports and for those hardy soles that have braved the winter cold enjoyed their sailing at Lake Pupuke and Pakuranga. Following on from the success of the combined club sailing from last season we will continue with the same format this season.
We are introducing a new series this season which will be known as the "Away Series" The series will be made up of the respective classes North Islands, Sir Peter Blake, Junior Sail Auckland and Auckland Champs regattas. The sailor with the best combined score across all 4 series in each class will be awarded a prize at our end of year prize giving. We will also be having a BBQ back at BBYC after each race day in the river this will be on the top deck as soon as possible after sailing has finished.
Due mainly to the increase in the cost of petrol we have had to increase our racing fees by $20. I am sure you will agree that this is a nominal increase considering the 50% jump in fuel prices. We have also shortened a couple of the series to 3 race days instead of4 and some races days will only have2 races. On
the days with 2 races the courses will be longer then the short courses we normally sail when in the river. The courses will change depending on which club is running the races, make sure you check what course you will be sailing.
Registration this year will be done via post and email. Our main form of communication will be email.
The weekly "What's Up Bucks" will have details of where and when we are racing. If you are not currently receiving this email make sure you advise the office at mailto:bucksbyc@clear.net.nz the problem might be that you have not paid your membership fees. This email is sent out every week, all year, act today if are not receiving it. Enclosed is your registration form, you will note that we are
offering a discount of $20 per sailor for fees paid in full by Friday the 29 August. Notices will also be sent via email so please check your emails a day or two before racing. Sailors can also register on the club web site http://www.bbyc.org.nz here you can find some ever useful information, coaches tips, calendar, parent roster, tips on buying an optimist and boats for sail and maybe a photo of you. Most of this information can only be viewed once you have registered and logged in.
Once again we plan to run Sunday morning training for those sailors that want to improve their abilities. This will cost $100 and cover approximately 13 sessions. Mid week training will also be available, cost will depend on numbers on sailors taking part. Training will be provided for Starlings P Class Open
Optimists and Green fleet we would like to enter several teams in the Optimist teams racing champs in November, March and at the Nationals.
Parents Help! We would like one parent from each family to help out on race days. You will be rostered on approximately once every third race day. Please indicate where you would prefer to help on the registration form. We will try to accommodate all wishes.
Sailors please ensure you are dressed appropriately for the conditions. The weather can change suddenly, you are better off to be too warm then to get cold. Once you get cold it is too late, it takes a lot longer to warm up. Stay warm. If you need new gear talk to your parents now, give them some time to purchase it for you, Also remember to take plenty of food and drink out with you, this helps you to stay warm and keeps concentration levels up. The programme attached has all our races days and most oft he junior and senior regattas right through to April. Keep it somewhere safe as you will need to refer lo it as the season
progresses.
Kind regards
Hamish Tait
