SAIL EXPERIENCE
Sail Experience in our J24’s Keel Boats:
Highlights: Enjoy this unique treat with up to 4 friends or your family (5 people max. on each boat). This 3 hour J24 Sail experience will be a introductory to sailing with your own experienced coach. You will get to sail down Tamaki River and experience the beautiful scenery of the Hauraki Gulf. This is the perfect setting for a pleasant day on the water and a fantastic opportunity for introduction into sailing.
Conditions: Bookings are essential. Subject to availability and weather conditions.

WHY US?
Boats:
We have the perfect boat for you to learn to sail on. The BBYC Sailing Academy has its own fleet of five modified J24 Keelboats. J24’s are the best size boat to learn on and ours have been purposely modified for Learn to Sail.
Best Instructors:
We have a great team of Instructors at BBYC sailing academy. Our Instructors are dedicated to giving you the best learn to sail experience available. Our instructors are Yachting New Zealand qualified and have a huge amount of sailing and Coaching experience.
Instructor to Student Ratio:
On each boat we have four student and one instructor, this means you are an active part of the crew the whole time, as well as getting much more attention from the instructor.
Follow on Courses & Support:
Our goal is not only to teach you how to sail, but to get you regularly sailing and racing out of our club. We offer a comprehensive training program, from learn to sail through to advance racing and crew placement.

Where do I meet?
Please meet at the reception, Buckland’s Beach Yacht Club, Ara Tai drive, Half Moon Bay.
What do I need to bring ?
A change of clothes, note pad and pen, lunch and drink, suncream and jumper. You may have to allow for more to drink than usual. We provide life jackets, and wet weather gear.
What should I wear?
Sailing requires physical effort so ideally clothes should allow you to move freely. Bring a few layers of clothes, it can often be quite cool when on the water. Track pants and sweat shirt for cool conditions and shorts and T-shirts for warmer days. Boat shoes or sport shoes preferably with a light colored sole. Sailing gloves to prevent rope burn. Sun protection i.e. hat, sunglasses, sunscreen etc. A zip-up bag to keep your gear in.
What if it is wet and windy conditions?
If it is going to be wet out there we have wet weather gear available, please don’t buy any. If it is two windy to go sailing we will have a shorter theory session at the yacht club. If is too windy two weeks in one course we will reschedule to use the reserve day.
